MICHIGAN STATE USBC BA ADDS THREE TO ITS HALL OF FAME

 

The Michigan State USBC BA is proud to welcome three new members into their Hall of Fame. Mitch Jabczenski Sr. of Novi, the late Frank Sczepanski of Flint and Barney Eagan of Muskegon have been elected in the Superior Performance, Veteran’s and Meritorious Service categories respectively.

 

With the addition of the three new inductees the hall, which began in 1996, will have 63 members.

 

Jabczenski was the member of the 1987 ABC Team All Events champion and holds a 203 lifetime ABC/USBC tournament average for 38 years.

 

He has three Michigan State titles including two team titles in 1979 and 1984. The other title is the Michigan State Senior Masters.

 

Locally he has three team and one doubles titles. Additionally he has 11 All-City honors and six Senior All-City honors. He was elected into the Detroit Bowling Hall of Fame in 1994.

 

He has four Michigan Majors titles and is a member of the Michigan Majors Hall of Fame, elected in 1983. He also was Michigan Majors Bowler of the Year in 1990.

 

He also has seven PBA Regional titles.

 

His high career average is 237, owns fifty-eight 300 games and nineteen 800 series with an 846 high.

 

Sczepanski, the long time editor of the 11th Frame bowling newspaper in Flint, was elected into the Flint Bowling Hall of Fame in 1970, the Michigan Amateur Sports Hall of Fame in 1975 and in 1981 received the Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Flint Sports Hall of Fame.

 

During his distinguished career he earned more than 40 local and national writing awards. He was honored with the Mort Luby Sr. Meritorious Service Award and the Flowers for the Living Award presented by the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA). He also served as President of the Flint Bowling Association and the BWAA.

 

He organized a Polio Sweeper tournament which raised $451,877.60 for the Genesee County March of Dimes over a 28-year period.

 

As a bowler he had a high average of 192, high game of 289 and high series of 757.

 

On the local level Eagan first served on the Clio/Montrose Bowling Association Board of Directors from 1975 through 1979. In 1986 he was elected to the Greater Muskegon BA Board of Directors where he served for 16 years and was president in 1996. Was instrumental in the formation of the local Hall of Fame and was elected to it in 2001. He currently serves as president of the local Hall of Fame. A certified lane inspector and youth coach are also among his accomplishments.

 

On the state level he was elected to the Michigan State BA Board of Directors in 1995 and was hired as Association Manager in 2005. He was selected as Director of the Year in 2001.

 

Eagan, a bowler for over 50 years, boasts a high average of 209, high game of 289 and high series of 754.

 

Induction ceremonies will take place Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Mount Pleasant.
